Holtermoor is a part of the municipality Ostrhauderfehn in the district of Leer in East Frisia .

history

Holtermoor originated in 1765 as a moor settlement and was first referred to in 1787 as "Holter Mohrhäuser". The current name Holtermoor was used from 1819. The name is composed of the neighboring place " Holte " and " Moor ".

The municipality of Holtermoor had only 131 inhabitants until 1821. With the establishment of Holterfehn , the number of inhabitants increased significantly from 1828. In 1848 both places had a total of 588 inhabitants, in 1871 already 996. With 1,125 inhabitants in 1885, the municipality of Holtermoor had the highest population.

In 1970 the municipality of Holtermoor decided to merge voluntarily with the municipality of Ostrhauderfehn and gave up its independence. In the negotiated area change agreement, the localities of Holtermoor and Holterfehn were defined as new districts of the new unified municipality of Ostrhauderfehn.
