Potshausen is a part of the municipality Ostrhauderfehn in the district of Leer in East Frisia .

history

The place Potshausen was first mentioned on December 8, 1409 as Pophteshusen in an arbitration ruling by the council broadcasters of the cities of Hamburg and Lüneburg in the disputes between Keno tom Brok on the one hand and Hisko von Emden , Enno von Norden and Haro Idzerdes on the other.

Potshausen became famous for the nearby bridge on the Leda , which was the earliest documented bascule bridge in the area of ​​today's municipality of Ostrhauderfehn. It was mentioned in 1662 in the "Hagisch verglyk over de Gravemina". The bridge was in fiscal possession and was administered by the princely officials in Stickhausen . In the past, customs were levied here from the passing ships . The customs station was secured by the so-called Potshauser Schanze .

On January 1, 1973 Potshausen was incorporated into the municipality of Ostrhauderfehn.

The St. Martin Church

The Evangelical Lutheran St. Martin Church is a brick hall church with a semicircular east apse , arched windows and a graceful west tower. It dates from 1865 and was inaugurated on March 18, 1866. It is the oldest church in Ostrhauderfehn and has some sights such as B. the altarpiece from a previous church from 1647 and a medieval crucifix from the pre-Reformation period.
