history

Potshausen is a very old settlement that has repeatedly been hit by storm surges reaching deep into the country in the course of its history. The increasing wetness of the soil caused the place to decline further. The first church was looted and cremated by Focko Ukena in 1409 , but then restored. In 1865/66 today's church was built instead of the old, too small Potshauser church. The inauguration took place on March 18, 1866.

Description and equipment

The Führer organ

St. Martin is a brick hall church in the neo-Romanesque style with a semicircular east apse , arched windows and a graceful west tower. Inside the building is closed at the top with a flat ceiling.

The church is the oldest in Ostrhauderfehn and contains art-historically valuable furnishings of supraregional importance that were taken over from the previous building. This includes the altarpiece with paintings between Hermen pilasters and fittings , which is dated to the year 1647. The ten apostles can be seen on the predella and a representation of the Ascension on the crown. The central Last Supper painting is more recent and was added in the 20th century.

Other items of equipment include a triumphal cross from the second half of the 15th century, the cross beams of which were later added. A Pietà (the face of Mary sawed off) and Anna her third are dated around 1500 . The two brass crowns are works from 1720 and 1865.

organ

The organ was built in the years 1967–1969 by the Wilhelmshaven organ builder Alfred Führer and in 2003 the organ builder Bartelt Immer renovated and improved the sound. It has 9 registers on two manuals and a pedal .
