The town church Neuhaus am Rennweg is the Evangelical Lutheran church of the town of Neuhaus am Rennweg . The wooden church with a neo-Gothic design was inaugurated on August 28, 1892.
history
Ecclesiastically Neuhaus and the older Schmalenbuche district originally belonged to the parish of Oberweißbach . From 1668 to 1673, Count Albert Anton von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt had a hunting lodge built near today's market square. A small wooden baroque church was built as an extension of the left side wing, which was inaugurated on September 20, 1673. By order of the count, the independent parish Neuhaus was established in 1683, which also included Schmalenbuche and Lichte . By 1765 the parish had grown from 89 to about 400 parishioners. An extension of the church with a new organ and bell followed. Despite constant repair work, the condition of the church deteriorated in the 19th century - only the roof was slated - and led to the implementation of a new building in 1889. The planning of the neo-Gothic wooden church was the responsibility of the Rudolstadt building officer and architect Rudolph Brecht. The church was built in 1891/92 below the old church and was consecrated on August 28, 1892. In 1894 the old church was demolished. A coal heating system was installed in 1934. Major repairs were carried out in 1982, 1994 and 2006.
architecture
The north-east facing wooden church stands on a natural stone base on a slope below the market square. The neo-Gothic hall church is clad in slate and has a drawn-in, just closed choir with side extensions, which on the one hand house the sacristy and on the other hand in the former baptistery commemorative plaques from both world wars. The church tower opposite with the main entrance bears the year name 1891. It has a gable roof on which an octagonal roof turret sits and is flanked by side extensions. The two-tone slate and two-story twin windows, designed with pointed arches at the top, structure the facade.
The church interior, with around 350 seats, is completely clad in wood and has a three-sided gallery. A visible double hanging structure supports the roof structure. The geometrical-ornamental stained glass of the windows was made by the Ferdinand Müller glass painting company . The altarpiece is an oil print of the Descent from the Cross by Peter Paul Rubens .
Ornaments of grapes, leaves and vines refer to the theme of the house of God, which is derived from the 15th chapter of the Gospel of John: “ … I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him brings much fruit; because without me you cannot do anything ... ".
organ
The first organ was made by the master organ builder Carl Loesche from Rudolstadt . It was replaced by a new organ from the Gotha-based organ building company Rudolf Böhm in the prospectus that was built at the time . It has 13 stops with three playing aids on two manuals and a pedal . The inauguration was on the 1st of Advent 1974.
Bells
The bell house is next to the church. It was built in 1924 because the church tower was not sufficiently stable for the three new chilled cast iron bells purchased from the Ulrich and Weule bell foundry after the First World War . There is also a small iron chilled cast iron bell from 1919 in the roof turret.
