Wood mechanic
The wood mechanic is a state-recognized training occupation in industry according to the German Vocational Training Act .
Duration of training and structure
The training period to become a wood mechanic is usually three years. The training takes place at the training company and vocational school . The training regulation from 2015 divides the training occupation into three subject areas :
- Manufacture of furniture and interior fittings
- Manufacture of building elements , wooden packaging materials and frames
- Assembly of interior fittings and structural elements
Work areas
Specializing in furniture and interior design
Wood mechanics make furniture and interior fittings. They operate production facilities, set up tools and equipment and carry out maintenance and servicing work. They treat surfaces, pack and store products. Wood mechanics can differentiate between types and properties of wood and wood-based materials. To do this, you determine the moisture content of the wood , select wood and wood-based materials according to the production specifications and process the material. They check the manufactured parts for quality and dimensional accuracy , select connecting and construction fittings, check their function and assemble them. Wood mechanics also work on surfaces by cleaning and sanding , protecting them from damage and coating them.
