The filmmaker, who lives in Paris, returned to his native Iraq in 2002 after 20 years to document the lives of his family and friends. His five and a half hour film describes everyday life under Saddam Hussein's regime before the US invasion from February 2002 until shortly after the start of the Iraq war in 2003. The documentary consists of two parts: “Before the Fall” and “After the Battle” (“Before the Fall "And" After the battle "). Fahdel shot with a light video camera in Baghdad and in the countryside. The central figure is Haidar, the twelve-year-old nephew of Abbas Fahdel, who dies tragically in the end.
