Max Schweizer (born May 29, 1950 in Zurich ) is a Swiss diplomat .

Life

Schweizer studied geography , history and political science at the University of Zurich , where he received his doctorate in 1979. phil. II. From 1980 to 2012 he worked as a diplomat for the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) ; most recently, from 2007 to 2012, as Deputy Head of the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the World Trade Organization WTO and the European Free Trade Association EFTA in Geneva .

As a lecturer, he created and headed the Foreign Affairs and Applied Diplomacy department at the ZHAW School of Management and Law in Winterthur from 2012 to 2015 . He is visiting professor at the Zhuhai Campus of Beijing Technical University .

From 2015 to 2019 he presided over the SwissDiplomats - ZurichNetwork, which he co-founded, and is the managing director of Dr. Max Schweizer - Foreign & Economic Affairs.

Schweizer is the editor of several text collections on Swiss foreign policy . Various bilateral relations are highlighted, for example with the Baltic states of Estonia , Latvia and Lithuania , as well as with Turkey . During his lectureship, he also produced a trilogy on important foreign policy issues: Swiss diplomacy, European politics and Switzerland's role in the world trading village.
