The Honschaft Obmettmann was until the 19th century one of the lowest administrative units in the rural outskirts of the Niederbergisches Land .

history

From the Middle Ages on, the Honschaft belonged to the Mettmann office and came to the Solingen office in the 18th century and was administered by the subordinate (later office) Schöller . In the course of an administrative reform within the Grand Duchy of Berg , the Mettmann mayor was formed in 1808 and the Honschaft was combined with Mettmann. The mayor's office Mettmann has formed a municipality since 1846 according to the municipal regulations for the Rhine Province of July 23, 1845 and since 1856 a city according to the Rhenish city regulations .

Goldberg Manor

Around 1217 the knight Henricus de Goltberghe laid out a knight's seat on the Mettmann Bach. In 1329 it came into the possession of Count Adolf von Berg and became a Bergisch fief. At this point in time, the estate had already been greatly enlarged and its lands stretched as far as the Düssel. In the 17th century, the estate consisted of the parts Groß Goldberg, Klein Goldberg and Goldberger Mühle. In 1904 the manor Groß Goldberg was completely destroyed in a large fire. The mill was extensively renovated at the end of the 90s by a specially founded association.

Todays situation

View over the eastern areas

Obmettmann is currently a part of Mettmann. The western parts of Obmettmann around Groß- and Kleingoldberg have become the eastern part of the Mettmann urban area, especially through development from the 19th century. The city forest was also partially replaced by a new housing estate. In addition, a large industrial area has been created on the connecting road in the direction of Wuppertal. All paved paths in the central and eastern Honschaftsgebiet bear the name Obmettmann in their entirety . They are connected by a road that is partly connected through the landscape, but partly also runs in isolated sections. This area is largely agricultural and sparsely populated.
