The Hop River State Park Trail is a state park in the form of a green route in the US state of Connecticut in the area of ​​the parishes of Andover , Bolton , Columbia , Coventry , Manchester , Vernon . The trail is 19 mi (31 km) long and follows the route of a former railway line. It extends from Colonial Drive in Manchester to the Willimantic River on the parish line between Columbia and Windham, a little west of Willimantic . It is maintained by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP). Maintenance work is carried out by local volunteers.

Four sections can be distinguished along the way:

  • Colonial Road, Manchester to the western Hop River bridge at Columbia / Coventry town line .
  • Western Hop River bridge at Columbia / Coventry town line to Kings Road, Coventry .
  • Kings Road, Coventry to Flanders River Road, Columbia .
  • Flanders River Road, Columbia to Willimantic River .

A section of the river on US Route 44 at Bolton Notch State Park was renatured . There is also the Freja Park .

planning

The eastern half of the trail at Bolton Notch State Park will connect to the Charter Oak Greenway to Manchester and Hartford . The east end is to be connected to the Air Line State Park Trail and integrated together into the system of the East Coast Greenway (ECG). This trail aims to create a green route connecting Maine to Florida. The Connecticut ECG runs from Rhode Island to Hartford and from there on to the southwest to New Haven and on to New York .
