Hop oil is an essential oil that is 0.2% to 1.7% in hops . The hop oil is formed in the hop glands (lupulin) and gives the hops their characteristic aroma . Hop oil consists of over 300 known and unknown aroma components as well as over 2000 different chemical compounds :

Hop oil
Terpene hydrocarbons
(about 75% of the total oil)
Oxy compounds
(about 25% of the total oil)
Monoterpenes :
myrcene
Sesquiterpenes :
humulene (α-caryophyllene), β- caryophyllene

Myrcene occupies a special position among the components of hop oil. It is easily volatile and oxidizable, it gives the hop aroma the sharpness and can later give the beer a rough and ignoble nuance .

use

The world's largest hop retailer, the Barth-Haas Group , recommends the use of hop oil in the brewing process shortly before filtration.
