The Horn River is a right tributary of the Mackenzie River in the Northwest Territories of Canada .

The Horn River rises 25 km northwest of Willow Lake on the northern slope of the Horn Plateau , a plateau up to 820  m high. It initially flows north for a short time, but then turns to east-southeast. He takes in Pine Creek from the left. Later it flows through Fawn Lake , Second Lake and Mink Lake and makes an arc to the south-southwest. The Laferte River flows into Mink Lake from the west . Shortly before its confluence with the Mackenzie River above Mills Lake and 25 km northwest of Fort Providence , the Bluefish River meets the Horn River on the left. The Horn River has a length of about 250 km. The river is the namesake of the Horn River Formation , a stratigraphic unit of the western Canadian sedimentary basin .
