Horrid is an Italian death metal band from Varese , which was founded in 1988 under the name Rites of Death .

history

The band was founded in 1988 under the name Rites of Death by the guitarist Mario "Belfagor" Plumari and the bassist and singer Max. After the name was changed to Horrid the following year, the first two demos Eternal Suffering and You Are Mine appeared in 1992 and 1994 . Another was recorded in 1993, but it was not released until 2009 on Terror from Hell Records . Through the demos, the group caught the attention of various labels. After the EP Awaiting for the Truth , which was released by Cryptic Soul Production in 1996 , the band later moved to the Sunlight Studio in Stockholm to record the EP Blasphemic Creatures , which was released in 1998 by Behind the Mask Records . Through the latter, Horrid reached a record deal with Deadsun Records , which in 2002 released the debut album Reborn in Sin . After a contract with Xtreem Music was signed, the second album Rising from the Hidden Spheres followed in 2006 . In 2011 the compilation The Final Massacre was released by Blasphemous Art Productions and Black Tears Producions . The line-up had changed several times since it was founded, with Plumari being the only remaining original member. In June 2013, the band returned to the Sunlight Studio to record the album Sacrilegious Fornication under the direction of Tomas Skogsberg , which was released in April 2014 by the German label Dunkelheit Produktionen . The album consists of eight original songs as well as a cover of the Hellhammer song Massacra . After the album Beyond the Dark Border had been recorded with a new line-up , the material was mixed and mastered in October 2016 in the 16th Cellar Studio . It appeared the following year via Dark Productions. On December 31, 2019, the album As We Forget Our Past followed on the same label . The album consists of ten older songs that were recorded in the Walking Cloud Studio and mixed and mastered by Stefano Morabito .

style

According to the band's Facebook presence, she was initially influenced by groups like Hellhammer or its sequel Celtic Frost . Mr. Møller from Metal.de wrote in his review of Beyond the Dark Border that you can hear classic and dark-sounding Death Metal in the European , especially Swedish , style. Similarities to Grave , Dismember , Bolt Thrower and Asphyx can be heard in the songs . The songs are varied, but most of the time the group does not manage to sound independent. Sebastian Schilling from Rock Hard wrote about As We Forget Our Past that this is "the perfect incarnation of the HM2 sound " and that it is a kind of best of Death Metal in Swedish style. He drew comparisons with Lik and Endseeker . The varied songwriting and the "strong melodies" are also particularly characteristic . The singing is reminiscent of Jan Chris de Koeyer from Gorefest . In an interview with Schilling in the same issue, Davide "Dagon" Ariostini stated that the band was initially influenced by Hellhammer. After the release of Eternal Suffering , the group was heavily influenced by the wave of Swedish death metal bands, so that the following releases had little in common stylistically with the first demo.
