Horst-Dieter Brähmig

Horst-Dieter Brähmig (born October 23, 1938 in Hoyerswerda ; † June 27, 2017 there ) was a German local politician ( Die Linke ). From 1994 to 2006 he was Lord Mayor of his native Hoyerswerda.

Life

Brähmig was born in 1938 in Hoyerswerda, the son of a doctor. After attending EOS , which he finished with his Abitur in 1956, he trained as a medical-technical assistant at the Hoyerswerda district hospital. In 1969 he moved to the Hoyerswerda District Council , where he held offices in the health and energy sector and joined the SED . From 1972 to 1976 he completed a degree in political science and law, which he graduated with a degree in political science. After 1990, he initially took on management functions in the trade and then in the road traffic office. At the same time he worked as a city councilor for the PDS . He was chairman of the PDS parliamentary group and on June 26, 1994 elected Lord Mayor of Hoyerswerda. When he took office on August 1, 1994, he was the first PDS politician to be elected mayor. When re-elected in 2001, he received 48.6 percent of the vote. He held the mayor's office until 2006. He then retired. Brähmig succumbed to cancer on June 27, 2017.
