Enactus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Enactus is an international, non - profit, non - governmental organization headquartered in Springfield, Missouri , which has set itself the task of creating economic prospects for third parties that serve the common good through practical support for projects of student groups.

history

The organization was founded in 1975 in the USA as a project of the National Leadership Institute under the name Students In Free Enterprise , SIFE for short . The aim was to get students excited about the free market economy and to sensitize them to the role of entrepreneurs and companies within the market economy. The initiative was initially only active in the USA, where the number of participating teams and students grew steadily. In 1995, exchange students from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln laid the foundation for global expansion when they set up their own teams in their home countries of Kazakhstan , Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan after returning from the USA . In October 2012 the organization was renamed Enactus after a member survey by the board. The new name was based on the entrepreneurial spirit ( en trepreneurial ), the will to create ( act ion ) as well as the common ground in action and values ( us ). This is also intended to ensure that the name is better established among companies, students and those who are helped.

Today (May 2020) around 1730 Enactus teams are active at colleges and universities in 37 countries with around 72,000 students. This makes Enactus one of the largest student initiatives in the world. In addition to the students, representatives from more than 550 corporate, organizational and individual partners are mainly active in donating money and in kind.
