Horst Avenarius

Horst Avenarius (also Horst Avenarius-Herborn ; born August 26, 1930 in Gau-Algesheim ) is a pioneer in public relations in Germany.

Life

Horst Avenarius received his doctorate in history from the University of Munich in 1956 . From 1957 to 1969 he worked as an editor for the Mannesmann Group's company magazines and then as press officer at the Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF). From 1973 to 1989 he headed the corporate communications and policy of the BMW -Konzerns in Munich. From 1989 to 1991 he was chairman of the board of the Herbert Quandt Foundation in Munich .

In 1979 he founded the Spielmotor München e.V. association with Jürgen Kolbe, cultural advisor for the city of Munich. V. with the aim of promoting special cultural activities and enabling contemporary artistic projects. It was one of the first models of a public-private partnership between the city and the company. Their success continues to this day. In addition to the well-known Alabama Hall, a multifunctional venue for music, theater and dance from 1981 to 1988, the two partners financed on an equal basis, initially annual and, after a long break, since 1995 every two years, avant-garde theater festivals, designed with full freedom of content.

From 1985 to 2000 Horst Avenarius taught public relations at the universities of Munich, Hanover and Eichstätt and at other educational institutions. From 1992 to 1997 he was director of studies for the public relations course he had set up at the Bavarian Academy for Advertising and Marketing .

From 2009 to 2012 he was chairman of the Association of Friends of the Bavarian State Theater, of which he is a member of the board of trustees.

Avenarius lives in Gauting near Munich.

Functions

From 1988 to 1991 Horst Avenarius was Vice President of the German Public Relations Society (DPRG), from 1992 to 1997 Chairman of the DPRG Honorary Council , from 1992 to 2008 Chairman of the German Council for Public Relations (DRPR), an organ of voluntary self-regulation in the field of PR , comparable to the German Advertising Council, and the German Press Council. Since 2009 he has been honorary chairman of the DRPR.

From 1995 to 2007 Avenarius was a member of the board of trustees of the Deutsches Museum , from 2003 to 2007 Honorary Fellow of Communicatiewetenschap at the Amsterdam School of Communications.
