Horst Engel (politician, 1947)

Horst Engel (born January 18, 1947 in Leipzig ) is a German politician ( FDP ).

Education, work and family

From 1969 to 1972 Engel attended the higher state police school in North Rhine-Westphalia, which he graduated as a police commissioner (diploma in administration). He was used in Cologne, Essen, Wuppertal, Münster and in the Rhein-Erft district. He is currently the chief police officer .

Angel is married.

Political party

Engel has been a member of the FDP since 1976, for which he has been a member of the Pulheim City Council since 1980 . Until March 2011 he was chairman of the FDP district association Rhein-Erft and from 1989 to 2001 deputy chairman of the FDP district association Cologne. Engel became a member of the FDP state executive committee in 1996.

He was deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group from June 2000 to October 2003, and has been its domestic policy spokesman since June 2000. Since 2000, Engel has been group spokesman for the FDP in the North Rhine-Westphalian Association of Towns and Municipalities.

MP

Engel was a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament from June 2, 2000 to June 2, 2005 . On July 1, 2005, he was again a member of the state parliament , replacing State Secretary Jan Söffing . He was a member of the 15th NRW state parliament (2010 to May 2012) .

After the 15th state parliament was dissolved in March 2012, Engel, now 65 years old, decided not to run again. His successor as chairman of the FDP district Rhein-Erft won in the 2012 state election in North Rhine-Westphalia , a seat in Parliament .

Engagements and honors

Engel is a member of the Military and Hospitable Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem and is involved in the federal board of the Lazarus Relief Organization .

Engel received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon in May 2007 .
