Career

Trickett was one of the fastest freestyle sprinters in the world. For the first time she caused an international sensation when she won the bronze medal in the 50m freestyle at the 2003 World Swimming Championships in Barcelona . At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , she also won the bronze medal on this route. Her final breakthrough to the top of the world came in 2005. At the 2005 World Swimming Championships in Montréal , she won the gold medal in the 50 m freestyle and the silver medal in the 100 m dolphin. There were also two gold medals with the Australian 4 × 100 m freestyle and medley relay. After the World Championships she started in Australia at the Short Track World Championships and twice improved the world record over 100 m freestyle within 24 hours, first to 51.91 seconds, then to 51.70 seconds. Therese Alshammar's old world record since 2000 was 52.17 seconds. She was the first woman to stay on a short course under 52 seconds. At the 2007 Swimming World Championships in Melbourne , Lenton won gold in the 50 m freestyle, 100 m freestyle and 100 m butterfly. There are also two gold medals with the Australian 4 × 100 m freestyle and 4 × 100 m medley relay.

In the traditional country comparison between the USA and Australia after the World Cup in Melbourne, she swam 52.99 seconds in the 100 m freestyle, making her the first woman to cover this distance in less than 53 seconds. The FINA did not recognize this time as a world record , however, as Lenton achieved it as the starting swimmer of a mixed relay race against the American Michael Phelps .

Easter 2007, Libby Lenton married the Australian swimmer Luke Trickett and started the Australian qualifying races for the Olympic Games in Beijing for the first time under her new name Trickett . In this competition, she improved the world record in the 100 m freestyle of the German Britta Steffen by 42 hundredths of a second to 52.88 seconds and the more than 50 m freestyle of Marleen Veldhuis by 12 hundredths to 23.97 seconds. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Trickett won the gold medal in the 100 m butterfly, the silver medal in the 100 m freestyle, the bronze medal with the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay and finally a second gold medal in the 4 × 100 m individual relay relay. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London , she was used in the run-up to the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay and thus won her fourth gold medal at the Olympic Games.
