Mayumi Aoki

Mayumi Aoki ( Japanese 青木 ま ゆ み , Aoki Mayumi ; born May 1, 1953 in Yamaga , Kumamoto Prefecture ) is a former Japanese swimmer .

At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , she won the first gold medal for Japan in women's swimming since Hideko Maehata became Olympic champion in the 200m breaststroke in 1936. She won the 100 m butterfly race . In 1973 she was able to win the bronze medal over this route at the first swimming world championships in Belgrade .

In 1989 she was inducted into the hall of fame of international swimming .
