Yamaga ( Japanese 山 鹿 市 , - shi , literally: "mountain deer") is a Japanese city in the prefecture of Kumamoto on the island of Kyushu .

Yamaga is north of Kumamoto and south of Fukuoka and Kurume .
history
The city of Yamaga was created on January 15, 2005 from the merger of the communities Kahoku ( 鹿 北 町 , -machi ), Kamoto ( 鹿 本 町 , -machi ), Kaō ( 鹿 央 町 , -machi ) and Kikuka ( 菊 鹿 町 , -machi ) im Kamoto County .
