Tamana ( Japanese 玉 名 市 , -shi ) is a Japanese city in Kumamoto Prefecture on Kyushu Island on the coast of the East China Sea .
geography
Tamana is north of Kumamoto and south of Fukuoka and Kurume . The city extends along the Kikuchi Class 1 River , particularly the Kikuchi Plain ( 菊池 平野 , Kikuchi-heiya ), which flows into the Ariake Sea . The coast is largely shaped by various land reclamation measures.
