Shelley man
Shelley Mann (born October 15, 1937 in New York - † March 24, 2005 ) was an American swimmer .
She suffered from polio in her childhood , so she started swimming to strengthen her muscles. She started competitive swimming at the age of 12 and within a few years became one of the most versatile swimmers of her time. At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 she was Olympic champion over 100 m butterfly and won the silver medal with the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay. In the 1950s she held the world records over 100 m and 200 m butterfly, over 100 m freestyle and over 400 m medley at the same time . In total, she won 24 national swimming championships.
In 1966 she was inducted into the international swimming sport hall of fame .
