Liu Limin ( Chinese : 刘黎敏; born March 27, 1976 ) is a former swimmer from the People's Republic of China .

Career

Liu Limin first attracted international attention at the 1993 Short Course World Championships in Palma , when she became world champion in the 200 meter butterfly and with the Chinese 4 × 100 meter relay relay.

In 1994 she became world champion in both the 100 meter and the 200 meter butterfly world championships in Rome .

The following year, at the short course world championships in Rio de Janeiro , she was able to secure the world championship title in the 100 meter butterfly in a new world record time .

At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , she also won the silver medal in the 100 meter butterfly. Over 200 meters butterfly she finally came in fifth.

Liu won her last title at the Short Course World Championships in Gothenburg in 1997 when she became world champion on her special course, the 200 meter butterfly.

In 2000 she took part again at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney . There she only reached an Olympic final with the Chinese 4 × 100 meter medley relay, where she finally came in eighth. Over 100 meters butterfly, where she was 18th and over 200 meters butterfly, where she was 19th, she couldn't get past the heats.

She ended her career in 2001.
