Susie O'Neill
Susan "Susie" O'Neill AM (born August 2, 1973 in Mackay , Queensland ) is a former Australian swimmer .
O'Neill started for the Commercial Swim Club from Brisbane and was able to win numerous medals at the Olympic Games in the 1990s. On the individual courses she was most successful next to the freestyle courses in butterfly swimming , which earned her the nickname "Madame Butterfly". She was Olympic champion in the 200 m butterfly at the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 and Olympic champion in the 200 m freestyle at her home games in Sydney in 2000 . She also won silver over the 200 m butterfly in 2000 and bronze over the same distance at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona . She also won some medals with the Australian squadrons. At the 1998 World Championships , she was also able to triumph over her favorite track.
O'Neill is now married and has two children. In 2006 she was inducted into the International Swimming Sports Hall of Fame .
