Bronte Campbell (born May 14, 1994 in Blantyre , Malawi ) is an Australian swimmer and multiple world champion on the freestyle courses. She is the younger sister of the 2008 Beijing Olympic third party , Cate Campbell . The family moved from Malawi to Australia in 2001, and from then on the two sisters trained at Indooroopilly Swim Club with their trainer Simon Cusack.

Career

At the Australian Youth Olympic Festival 2011 she won the gold medal in the 50 meter freestyle. At the FINA World Youth Championships in Lima ( Peru ) she won over the same distance. At the Australian Championships, Campbell finished fourth in the 50 meter freestyle in 2011 and second in 2012, qualifying for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London , where she also swam this distance, reached the semi-finals and fourth in her run with a time of 24 That was 94 seconds.

At the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow , Bronte Campbell won two gold medals with the 4 × 100m freestyle relay and with the 4 × 100m relay. She also won the silver medal in the 100 meters freestyle and bronze in the 50 meters freestyle. The 4 × 100 m freestyle relay, in which her sister Cate also took part, set a new world record with 3: 30.98 minutes.

In 2015, she became world champion at the World Championships in Kazan, Russia, initially with the Australian 4 × 100 m freestyle relay. In the individual competition over 100 m freestyle she was surprisingly successful in front of Sarah Sjöström and her sister, the defending champion. Two days later she won her third world title in the 50 m freestyle in front of defending champions Ranomi Kromowidjojo and Sjöström.
