Jan Söffing

Jan Michael Söffing (born June 1, 1954 in Hildesheim ) is a German politician ( FDP ). From 2005 to 2010 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice of North Rhine-Westphalia .

education and profession

Söffing graduated from high school in 1974. From 1975 to 1980 he studied law at the University of Bonn . He passed his first state examination in 1980 and his second state examination in 1983 after completing his legal traineeship. After graduating, he entered the civil service as a judge . From 1984 to 1986 Söffing was a consultant in the Ministry of Justice of North Rhine-Westphalia. In 1986 he worked as a judge at the Düsseldorf Regional Court . From 1987 to 1991 he worked as a lecturer at the North Rhine-Westphalia University of Applied Sciences in Bad Münstereifel . In 1992 Söffing worked as a judge at the Mettmann District Court and from 1993 to 1996 as a division head in the Ministry of Justice in North Rhine-Westphalia. In 1996 he was appointed judge at the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court and in 1997 also became (Personnel) Deputy Head of Justice Administration.

Söffing is deputy chairman of the FDP local branch Mettmann and a member of the FDP district executive committee Mettmann. He is the deputy chairman of the FDP district executive committee in Düsseldorf and a member of the FDP state executive committee in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Jan Söffing was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia from June 2, 2000 to June 30, 2005 . He was the legal policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group and deputy state parliament president.

From July 1, 2005 until the Rüttger government was replaced by the Kraft I government in July 2010, he was State Secretary in the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of Justice, headed by Roswitha Müller-Piepenkötter (CDU).

Söffing has been a member of the Mettmann City Council since 2004.
