Horst Günther Friedrich (born September 12, 1931 in Breslau ; † December 25, 2015 in Landsberg am Lech ) was a German philosopher of science and critic of the academic world of science who, with regard to research into the history of the earth, mankind and civilization, was diffusionist , neocatastrophic and took positions critical of chronology . He was also active in the field of Karl May research.

Life

Friedrich first attended the secondary school in Breslau. Since his family had to flee Silesia at the end of the Second World War , his schooling was interrupted; but he was able to continue it later at the secondary school in Grafing near Munich . He completed his degree in communications engineering at the Technical University of Munich and graduated with a diploma. In addition to his professional activity in industry, he then studied the philosophy of science and the history of science and received his doctorate in 1974 at the Faculty of General Sciences at the Technical University of Munich under Joachim Otto Fleckenstein with a thesis on the natural sciences of the 17th century.

research

As a science philosopher and critic, Friedrich u. a. in favor of bringing about a "knowledge explosion" at colleges and universities through an institutionalization of academic diversity of opinion. He also emphasized that scientific doctrines and worldviews - because of their basically provisional and time-related character - should be viewed with skepticism.

As a neo-catastrophist, Friedrich turned against essential theories represented by the natural sciences . In his century error “Ice Age” (1997) he expresses the thesis that there was no ice age in the form postulated by the geosciences . As an alternative theory, the, u. a. influenced by the works of Immanuel Velikovsky , Friedrich a " Typhon scenario " similar to Velikovsky's worlds in collision . According to this, the earth was exposed to a catastrophic close encounter through a stray who appeared from the depths of space together with Venus. This resulted in a jerky tilting of the earth's axis. The ice ages are incorrect interpretations of geological findings and not longer phases in the history of the earth, but their traces were created in a very short period of time. In the myths of mankind, the events of that time would have found their way into the flood, for example . In Earth Disasters and Human Development (1998), he also included impact scenarios in his considerations.

In addition to various non-fiction books, Friedrich has published more than 200 articles in German, English and French on various topics in various international periodicals , including a. at Bipedia - Le Bulletin de la Bipédie Initiale , EFODON-Synesis , Frankfurter Briefe - Association news of the Giordano Bruno Society eV , KMG news , messages of the Karl May Society , messages of the Nicolas Petrol Foundation , Reports of the Midwestern Epigraphic Society , Transwelten , in the chronology-critical bulletin Vorzeit-Frühzeit-Gegenwart , in Wissenschaft ohne Grenzen as well as in the magazine for anomalies .

Others

Horst Friedrich was u. a. Long-standing member of the US MIDWESTERN EPIGRAPHIC SOCIETY, which presented him with the Barry Fell Award in 2008 , and of the Karl May Society . He was also a scientific adviser to the Nicolas Gasoline Foundation , which promotes work on the cultural history of Judaism and the history of medicine.

reception

The linguist Gerd H. Hövelmann wrote in the Zeitschrift für Anomalistik about the scientific debate: "Unfortunately, Friedrich's discussion always remains blanket and vague (...) where it should have become concrete in the interests of his own argument."
