Horst Karlsch (born August 6, 1929 ; † September 1999 ) was a German football player who was active in the 1950s for Lokomotive Stendal in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

In the 9th game of the company sports community (BSG) Lok Stendal in the 1953/54 season, Horst Karlsch started his career in the GDR league when he was used as a replacement for the retired Dieter Gradetzke on the right attacking side. Karlsch occupied this position in all other league games of the season and thus came to 20 missions, in which he appeared four times as a goal scorer. Then the BSG had to relegate from the league, but you managed to return to the league immediately. Kartsch was involved with 22 of 26 GDR league games and seven goals. From the 1956 season, GDR football was played every calendar year, and this was the most successful season for Horst Karlsch. His team surprisingly reached fourth place in the league, Karlsch only missed two point games and scored the most goals within a season of his Stendal career with eight goals. Only six goals were enough in 1957 to become the second best scorer in Stendal behind Kurt Liebrecht (7). Overall, the Stendaler scored the fewest goals in the league this season and therefore relegated again. Just like four years ago, in 1958 they were promoted again immediately, with Karlsch arriving at the same values as in 1954/55: 22 stakes in the game and seven goals. As a 30-year-old Karlsch went into his last season as a top division player in 1959. He was only used sporadically in three games in the first half of the season, scored two more league goals and then ended his career in competitive sports.
