Horst Niebisch

Horst Niebisch (born November 22, 1934 in Demmin ) is a former German athlete who won five GDR championship titles in hammer throw .

Niebisch won his first GDR championship title in 1955 when he was still playing for the ZSK Vorwärts Berlin , from 1957 the club was called ASK Vorwärts Berlin . 1957 to 1959 Niebisch won three more championship titles. In the elimination for the all-German team at the European Championships in 1958 , Niebisch was able to qualify once for major championships, with 57.83 m he finished 14th in Stockholm. In 1960 Niebisch reached second place behind Klaus Peter in the GDR championships, and in 1961 Niebisch won his last GDR championship title.

From 1955 to 1959, Horst Niebisch set a total of twelve GDR records and three all-German hammer throw records, his first record was 54.34 m, his last record was 62.77 m, which he threw on July 17, 1959 in Oslo. On July 22, 1957, Niebisch in Jena improved Karl Storch's all-German record from 1952 by almost one meter to 61.76 m. As a GDR record holder and all-German record holder, Niebisch was surpassed by Klaus Peter in 1960.

Niebisch was a trained cabinet maker, during his sporting career he was a non-commissioned officer in the NVA , and later he was promoted to officer.
