Horst Pirker (born December 3, 1959 in Lind im Drautal ) is an Austrian manager.

Life

Pirker studied at the Karl-Franzens-University in Graz and did a doctorate in law and business administration. In 1984 he joined the Kleine Zeitung . Pirker was CEO of the Styria Media Group from 1999 to September 2010 and President of the Austrian Newspaper Association ( VÖZ ) from 2004 to 2010 . In 2003 he was named Media Manager of the Year by Journalist of the Year .

Differences in opinion with the owner representatives about the future direction of the Styria Media Group caused Horst Pirker to leave the company in September 2010. Otherwise, Pirker should have assumed the presidency of the world newspaper association WAN-IFRA from January 2011 . On February 1, 2012, he joined the management of the Saubermacher waste management company as CEO . After this excursion into waste management, Pirker will switch to the management of the News publishing group on May 20, 2014 and thus back to the media business.

On June 20, 2016 it was announced that Horst Pirker would take over the majority of the News publishing group through a company from the previous majority owner, Gruner + Jahr.
