Horst Troche (born February 22, 1931 in Diepholz ; † April 29, 2014 ) was a German engineer and railway worker.

Troche studied mechanical engineering at the TH Darmstadt from 1950 to 1955 . After graduating, he initially worked as an assistant at the chair for technical mechanics at the TH Darmstadt. From there he switched to the Deutsche Bundesbahn as a building assessor in 1959 . After completing this second level of training, Troche took on various managerial positions at DB.

In his career at DB, which lasted until 1994, he was, among other things, head of the motor vehicle depot in Frankfurt am Main and headed departments in the repair shops in Braunschweig , Lingen and Witten , where he eventually became plant director. This position was preceded by an activity at the Federal Railway Central Office in Minden. From 1971 he worked in the central office for workshops of the Deutsche Bundesbahn in Mainz , from 1980 as its director. When this department was closed, he moved to the Federal Railroad's main administration , most recently with the rank of ministerial councilor as head of department and system manager for all DB plants.

Troche became known among railway enthusiasts for his decisive role in organizing the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the railway in Germany in 1985. Under his responsibility, various historical vehicles were reconditioned and the vehicle parades held in Nuremberg on the occasion of the anniversary were organized. The anniversary exhibition in Bochum-Dahlhausen was also part of this activity. Not least of all, the lifting of the steam locomotive ban imposed by the Deutsche Bundesbahn after the end of regular steam locomotive operations is due to him. The Federal Association of German Railway Friends awarded him honorary membership in 1986.

In addition to his professional activity, Troche also made a name for himself as an author of specialist books and articles on rail vehicles . His publications on the steam engine locomotive 19 1001 and the express train locomotives of the DR class 03 became standard works . For the Foundation German Railway , he was from 2006 Deputy Chairman of the Board.
