Horst Wandrey

Horst Wandrey (born August 22, 1929 in Nordhausen ; † September 12, 2012 ) was a German theater scholar and editor .

Life

After attending a technical school for pedagogy, Wandrey taught from 1947 to 1951 at the Institute for Teacher Training in his native Nordhausen. He then worked in the Thuringian state administration for art affairs and from 1954 to 1958 in the Office for Literature and Publishing in Berlin. At the same time, he began a correspondence course in journalism at KMU Leipzig in 1956 , which he completed in 1961.

Wandrey became head editor of the Henschel Verlag in Berlin / GDR in 1958 . As a lecturer, he oversaw most of the opera, theater and film lexicons published in the GDR as well as the extensive series of theater practice , contemporary drama , dialogue and international drama , the latter in collaboration with Jochanan Trilse-Finkelstein . At the end of 1990 this series comprised 104 volumes with more than 500 items and was, according to Trilse-Finkenstein in an obituary, “a major editorial work that it - for drama ! - has not existed and is so nowhere in Europe and in the American cultures ”.

Wandrey was awarded the National Prize of the GDR , the Wilhelm Bracke Medal in silver and gold and the Johannes R. Becher Medal in gold.

In 1992 Wandrey lost his job due to the bankruptcy of the Henschel Verlag, but in 1993 became managing director of the publishing house taken over by Silvius Dornier . He died in September 2012 at the age of 83.
