Horst Wernecke (* 1933 in Pöhls , Stormarn district ) is a teacher and Low German writer.

Life

The son of a teacher grew up in the country in Jersbek , a municipality in the Stormarn district. After leaving school, he studied fine arts and German studies with a focus on Low German linguistics and literature . Then, like his father, he became a teacher. In addition to his normal subjects of German, art and history, he also gave courses in Low German. He later worked as a department head at the State Institute for Practice and Theory at the school in Kiel, where he was responsible for teaching Low German at schools in Schleswig-Holstein, among other things. To do this, he produced a reader for elementary, intermediate and advanced levels. He also trained teachers for Low German lessons and became a member of the Advisory Board for Low German at the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament.

Even during his studies, Horst Wernecke was annoyed that Low German was often only used for funny theater plays. That's why he started to publish his own pieces. At first it was Low German factual stories, for example about the Ice Age in Holstein. Then there were anecdotes about special personalities.

Horst Wernecke lives in Ammersbek near Hamburg .
