Ulf-Thomas Lesle
Ulf-Thomas Lesle (born April 18, 1947 in Cuxhaven ) is a German philologist and cultural scientist , author , publicist and dramaturge .
life and work
Ulf-Thomas Lesle studied German, folklore, history and theater studies and was awarded a doctorate in 1986 at the University of Hamburg. phil. PhD.
From 1981 to 1987 Lesle was the first dramaturge for Low German drama at the Hamburg Ohnsorg Theater . With translations (including Ludvig Holberg , Henrik Ibsen ) and arrangements of folk pieces (including Wolfgang Kohlhaase , Fitzgerald Kusz ), he set artistic standards under the direction of Konrad Hansen .
From 1996 to 2012, Lesle was managing director at the Institute for Low German Language Bremen and lecturer at the Department of Linguistics and Literature at the University of Bremen.
Lesle characterizes Low German as a combination of dialects that is covered by the "Standard German language" - the Low German dialects are structurally "almost identical" to Standard German . Because the Low German dialects today neither have their own language nor form a historically grown, uniform cultural area, Lesle criticizes their instrumentalization as a resource for identity politics.
Lesle pleads "urgently for a cultural-scientific opening" of the academic subject Low German so that the reference system of values, norms and behavior in dealing with Low German can be properly analyzed.
Lesles' research focuses on the Low German movement , its history of political ideas and mentality, and the history of the landscape and culture of Northern Germany .
