Horst von Hassel

Horst von Hassel (born May 24, 1928 in Langen near Bremerhaven; † June 5, 2020 in Bremen ) was a German politician . He was a senator in Bremen .

biography

education and profession

Hassel in visited Lehe the secondary school . He obtained his Abitur in 1946 after interruptions due to the war. He studied pedagogy at the pedagogical seminar in Bremerhaven and became a teacher in 1952 after passing the exam. From 1963 he was headmaster. From 1967 to 1971 he worked as headmaster of the Heinrich Heine School in Bremerhaven in setting up a comprehensive school experiment.

From 1993 on he lived in Bremen. There he died after a serious illness on June 5, 2020.

politics

From 1961 von Hassel was a member of the SPD . In the 1970s he became deputy state chairman of the SPD in Bremen. In 1971 he was elected to the Bremen parliament and was later deputy chairman of the parliamentary group.

After the citizenship elections of 1979 he was Moritz Thape's successor from 1979 to 1983 as Senator for Education in the 4th cabinet of Hans Koschnick . Horst Werner Franke succeeded him in this position from August 1983 . Before the end of the legislative period, von Hassel resigned from the senatorial office in order to take on the task of a department head for education and culture in the magistrate of Bremerhaven from 1983 to 1991.
