from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hortense Gisela Slevogt (born September 16, 1965 in Jugenheim an der Bergstrasse ) is a German doctor, internist and infectiologist . She is professor for immunology of severe infections at Jena University Hospital and head of the Host Septomics research group for infection and microbiome research at ZIK Septomics, a university- related interdisciplinary institute for translational sepsis research . Her research focuses on various aspects of pathogen recognition and the immune response of the innate immune system in the human lungs and the interactions between the bacteria and fungi that colonize the lungs. Her broad expertise in cell biology is complemented by the integration of NGS sequencing and mass spectroscopy into her research.

Career

Hortense Slevogt was born in 1965 and studied human medicine at the Free University of Berlin . From 1993 to 2011 she worked as a research assistant at the medical clinic with a focus on infectiology and pulmonology at the Berlin Charité . She did her doctorate in 1996 at the Humboldt University in Berlin with a thesis in the field of neurology on reflex time measurements of muscle self-reflexes in healthy children and children with diabetes mellitus . with a work on muscle reflexes in children suffering from diabetes mellitus .

After completing her doctorate, she obtained a diploma in “ Tropical Medicine & Hygiene ” at the Bernhard Nocht Institute in Hamburg and then passed the United States Medical Licensing Examination , the prerequisite for practicing her profession in the USA. In 2003 she received her specialist certification for internal medicine, and in 2005 she received the additional designation for infectious diseases. From 2001 to 2003 she was in charge of the specialist infectious clinic in her clinic at the Charité.

In her habilitation at the Charité in 2009, she examined the molecular mechanisms involved in the interaction of a species of the Moraxella bacterium with the epithelial cells of the lung in order to better understand their role in the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease . Two years later she was appointed W2 professor for “Immunology of Severe Infections” at the Jena University Hospital, where she also founded the “Host Septomics for Infection and Microbiome Research” research group, which she has been leading to this day (as of March 2020).

Since 2017 she has been working again as an internist and infectiologist in the Department of Pneumology & Allergology / Immunology at the Jena University Hospital .

Slevogt has been an elected member of the Advisory Board of the German Society for Infectious Diseases (DGI) since 2017.

Slevogt is married and has two children.
