Hortulus Animae ( Eng .: little soul garden ) was the Latin title of a late medieval prayer book , which was also available in German and was widespread at the beginning of the 16th century.

An earlier, comparable work was Der Selen Würtzgart , Ulm, 1483.

Hortulus Animae was first printed on March 13, 1498 in Strasbourg by Wilhelm Schaffener from Rappoltsweiler , a German edition appeared in 1501. Later editions contained woodcut miniatures by Hans Springinklee and Erhard Schön . In 1907 a facsimile of an edition in the possession of the court library in Vienna (Cod. Bibl. Pal. Vindobonensis. 2706, 1907) was published by Friedrich Dornhöffer.

Hortulus Animae polonice is the Polish version, translated by Biernat von Lublin , printed in 1513 by Florian Ungler in Cracow . It is considered to be the first work printed in Polish.
