History and background

The two founders of the label Tony Colman and Chris Goss have been working together since 1993, two years before the company was founded. Tony's last band was the London street soul / jazz radio combo IZIT , which existed from 1988 to 1995. Chris previously worked in a soul and jazz record store in SoHo, London . Tony founded the label Tongue and Groove in 1992 , which Chris joined in 1993 as label manager. Chris and Tony didn't start producing music together until 1994. In 1995 they closed the label Tongue and Groove again and formed two new labels called Hospital and Galactic Disco Music . The latter was a label for London House and Radio and the home of Future Homosapiens, Orkestra Galactica and Funky Nasa - all nicknames for Tony and Chris' artistic creation from 1996 to 1998. Hospital however became the more successful of the two labels over time which is why Galactic Disco Music was closed again in 1998. Hospital's first releases earned the label a small underground following, but ultimately it was London Elektricity's song In the Key of Knife in the spring of 1998 that brought the label to the attention of the entire drum and bass scene. Tony and Chris' first LP Pull The Plug under the name London Elektricity (released summer 1999) received very good reviews and is now considered a classic among D&B albums.

In 2000 they released the first in a series of freestyle compilations called Out Patients , signaling that Hospital was no longer just a drum & bass label. Shortly afterwards, her foster son Tim Land aka Landslide released his debut album Drum + Bossa there , attracting a completely new audience from the jazz, breakbeat and 2-step scene. Danny Byrd signed in the summer of 2000, joined by Fabio and , later that year, Link Barrett, better known today as High Contrast .

As her label got bigger and bigger, Chris withdrew from the studio in 2002 to concentrate fully on the work at Hospital Records, leaving Tony in charge of London Elektricity. At the time, London Elektricity became one of the most sought-after D&B combos thanks to a string of very successful releases from compilations like Plastic Surgery or the Out Patients series to well-received artist albums like High Contrast's debut True Colors and London Elektricity's Billion Dollar Gravy .

Live Gravy , released in 2004, and The Future Sound of Cambridge were further building blocks for the label's success and spawned talents like Nu-Tone and Logistics . Cyantific signed his recording deal. High Contrast's second album High Society with the tracks Basement Track and Racing Green were played up and down on BBC's Daytime Radio 1 and the Notting Hill Carnival . That year the label moved from Baron's Court to Forest Hill, South London , where it is now headquartered.

In 2006 the sub-label "Med School" was founded, which is especially geared towards young newcomers. The first release came from SPY with Black Flag / Double Dragon .

Hospital Records won Best Label at the 2011 Drum and Bass Arena Awards.

Hospitality

Hospitality is the label's own series of events, where several of the label's performers appear. In 2014 one of the biggest hospitality events for the label's 18th birthday took place at The O2 in London .

In addition to the regular festivals, there are now other categories such as B. Hospitality BBQ , Hospitality in the Park and Hospitality On The Beach . Compilation CDs will also be released for the events. In Germany, Halle02 in Heidelberg is a regular venue for hospitality events.
