Hossein Amanat ( listen ? / I ; PersianAudio file / audio sample حسین امانت; * 1942 in Iran ) is an Iranian- Canadian architect and adherent of the Baha'i religion . He designed the seat of the Universal House of Justice , the International Teaching Center and the Center for the Study of the Sacred Texts at the Baha'i World Center in Haifa and the Baha'i Temple in Apia , Samoa , which was inaugurated in 1984 by Tanumafili II .

He also designed some of the first buildings for the Sharif University of Technology, founded in 1966, and in 1971 won the Tehran University's competition to design the Azadi Tower .

When the persecution of the Baha'i intensified after the Islamic Revolution of 1979 , he had to leave his home country and relocated to Vancouver , Canada. He is friends with his colleague Fariborz Sahba , who also lives in Vancouver.

On May 7, 2019, the House of Justice announced that Hossein Amanat had been entrusted with the planning of the Abdul-Baha shrine . On September 19, 2019, the design for the shrine was presented by the House of Justice.
