The Savoy Hotel ( Готель «Савой» (Вінниця) in Ukrainian ) is a hotel building at 48 Soborna Street in the center of the Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia . It was one of the most prestigious hotels in town. The hotel of the same name is now located at 69 Soborna Street.
history
The six-storey hotel building was built in 1912/1913 according to the plans of the main architect of the city Vinnytsia Hryhorij Artynov ( Григорій Григорович Артинов ; 1860-1919) in the eclectic style with balustrades, intricate stucco, rounded corners of the Ukrainian stucco window .
The hotel building had modern facilities for the time, including its own power station, electric light, an electric elevator, hot water supply and sewage disposal. It served as one of the most presentable hotels in the Podolia province until the beginning of the civil war to meet the needs of higher society.
During the civil war in 1917 the Military Revolutionary Committee and in 1918 a German commando were in the hotel. During the Ukrainian-Soviet War , the Directory of the Ukrainian People's Republic resided here in February 1919 (including Volodymyr Vynnytschenko and Symon Petlyura ) after it had withdrawn from Kiev, which was threatened by Bolsheviks , to Vinnytsia. In March 1919 it was the headquarters of the 1st Ukrainian Soviet Division under N. Shchors and in 1920 it became the seat of the Provincial Committee of the Podolia Province.
After the war, it was converted into the Palace of Labor . During the Second World War , the building came under shell fire and was almost destroyed. It was rebuilt in a somewhat simplified form with only five floors until 1953. After the restoration, the building was reopened as one of the best hotels in Ukraine and was named Ukraine . However, after Ukraine gained independence in 1991, the quality of the hotel declined and by 2010 the hotel's international classification had dropped to two stars. In the absence of funds for a comprehensive restoration, the Vinnytsia City Council took over the building of the former Hotel Savoy and rented it to the Vinnytsia Administrative Court on June 30, 2010.
