Howard Darryl Leigh, Baron Leigh of Hurley (born April 3, 1959 ) is a British economic manager , businessman and politician with the Conservative Party . He has been a Life Peer member of the House of Lords since September 2013 .

Life

Leigh attended Clifton College in Bristol . From 1977 to 1980 he studied Economics ( Economics ) at the University of Southampton . After completing his studies, he worked briefly at a British commercial bank. In September 1981 he joined the auditing and consulting company Deloitte Haskins + Sells . There, he worked as a tax advisor ( Tax Advisor ). He formed the chartered accountant ( Chartered Accountant continued) and then moved to the Corporate Tax Department of Deloitte. During this time he completed further training courses at the Chartered Institute of Taxation. In the spring of 1986 he built Deloitte's Mergers and Acquisitions Group, a special department for business combinations and takeovers. In May 1988 he left Deloitte Haskins + Sells. Together with his partner Hugo Haddon-Grant, he founded the business consultancy Cavendish Corporate Finance LLP in London's West End on Cavendish Square , also in May 1988 . Since January 1991 he has been Director of Cavendish Corporate Finance (UK) Limited and since March 2012 Director of Cavendish Corporate Investments Limited. Since June 2010 he has been a Senior Partner at Cavendish Corporate Finance LLP.

From 2000 to 2004 he was Chairman of the Faculty of Corporate Finance at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW). In 2008 he received the “Outstanding Achievement in Corporate Finance Award” from the Faculty of Corporate Finance.

Since 1979 Leigh supported the Conservative Party in election campaigns. Leigh was Treasurer of the Conservative Party from 2000 to 2005 ; since 2005 he has been senior treasurer. He is a member of the Executive Board of the Conservative Friends of Israel.

On August 1, 2013, it was announced that Leigh would be made a Life Peer and a member of the House of Lords for the Conservative Party. He was appointed as a so-called “working peer”. On September 16, 2013, he was formally promoted to Life Peer; he bears the title of Baron Leigh of Hurley , of Hurley in the Royal County of Berkshire . He has also been a formal member of the House of Lords since September 16, 2013. He was officially inducted into the House of Lords on October 17, 2013, with the assistance of Andrew Feldman, Baron Feldman of Elstree , and Stanley Fink, Baron Fink .

Leigh is married to his wife Jennifer Leigh and has two daughters. He is an avid racer and has taken part in several national and local marathons (including Henley Standard 10 km; Water of Life marathon). He lives alternately in London and Hurley .
