Howard MacNutt

Howard MacNutt (born June 13, 1859 in Branchtown , Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † December 26, 1926 in Miami , Florida ) was a Bahai in 1898 and was posthumously appointed a disciple of Abdu'l Baha by Shoghi Effendi .

Life

Howard MacNutt's parents were Ira and Carolyn MacNutt. He worked as a manager of a café and as a lawyer. He married Mary Stokes in 1889 and they had no children.

In 1898 both became Baha'i in New York City . He learned Persian and Arabic and was able to help translate the Kitab-i-Iqan ( Book of Certainty ) into English . In 1905 he and his wife made a pilgrimage to Acre . At the MacNutts' home in Brooklyn , Abdul-Baha lectured on April 12 and June 16, 1912, and was filmed on the property on June 18. Howard MacNutt recorded at least 18 addresses by Abdul Baha. Howard MacNutt also compiled a book of Abdul-Baha's speeches given in Canada and the United States in 1912 . On the instructions of Abdul-Baha, Howard MacNutt wrote an introduction to this originally two-volume work, which was published under the title The Promulgation of Universal Peace .

Howard MacNutt died of internal injuries as a result of a motorcycle accident a month after his wife was killed in a fall in a staircase.
