Hoya alagensis is a plant of the genus of wax flowers ( Hoya ) of the subfamily of asclepiadoideae (Asclepiadoideae).

features

Hoya alagensis is a perennial , climbing plant with shoots up to 6 m long, only occasionally twisting. The branched, flexible shoots are bare, circular in cross section and measure up to 7 mm in cross section. They are only weakly leafed. The opposite leaves are spread out and have long, curved and bare stems. The stems are up to 3 cm long and measure about 2 mm in cross section. The leaf blades are ovate-lanceolate or ovate-elongated with a round base and sharply pointed to extended tip. They are up to 8.5 to 13 cm long with a width of 5.6–6.5 cm. They are thick, leathery, bare and usually drooping. The tip is bent back, otherwise the blade is flat. The leaf veins are clearly visible. From the midrib, 4 to 6 pairs of leaf veins branch off at an angle of approx. 60 °, which rise slightly to the edges. The midrib stands out prominently on the underside. The vegetative parts of the plant secrete a white milky sap when injured.

The inflorescence arises slightly above the nodes and hangs down. The persistent inflorescence stalk is 8 to 12 cm long, glabrous or with a few small hairs and measures 2 mm in cross section. The thread-like flower stalks are up to 5 cm long and bare according to their position in the inflorescence. The egg-shaped sepals are 0.5 to 0.75 cm long and hairy on the outside. They end bluntly and overlap a little at the base. When spread out, the corolla has a diameter of 2 to 2.5 cm. The corolla lobes are broadly ovate with a pointed apex or a pointed apex. The tips of the secondary crown are egg-shaped in outline. The inner extension has a short beak, the outer extension is rounded with a longitudinal back near the tip. The pollinia are elongated with short caudiculae and a small, narrow corpusculum. The flowers are not fragrant

Geographical distribution and habitat

The distribution area is the Alag River on Mindoro (Philippines). The species occurs there in tropical forests 150 m above sea level.

Taxonomy

The taxon was first validly published in 1990 by Robert Dale Kloppenburg . The type specimen was collected in November 1906 by Elmer D. Merrill on the Alag River, Mondoro (Philippines). Rudolf Schlechter already used this name as a manuscript name. Robert Dale Kloppenburg took up the Schlechter's name and published it. The holotype is in the herbarium of the Botanical Garden Berlin ( Schlechter No. 5542 ).
