Hoya thomsonii (falsely also Hoya thompsonii ) is a plant of the genus of wax flowers ( Hoya ) of the subfamily of asclepiadoideae (Asclepiadoideae). The species is named after Thomas Thomson, whodiscovered the plant.
features
Hoya thomsonii grows epiphytically . The shoots wind, are relatively thin and up to about 2 m long. The elongated egg-shaped leaf blades are 5 to 7.5 cm long and 1.5 to 3.8 cm wide, but very variable in size. They are gray-green in color and somewhat hairy on the underside. The leaf surface is irregularly covered with silver-colored speckles. The leaves sit on petioles up to 13 mm long, which are also hairy. The distances between two pairs of leaves are different up to 5 cm long.
The inflorescences form large, pendulous, flat umbels that contain 20 to 30 individual flowers. The stalk of the inflorescence is up to 2.5 cm long and is glabrous to weakly covered with downy hairs. The flowers are light white, the diameter of the corolla is about 1.3 cm. The crown lobes are oval, at the end bluntly pointed. The edges are ciliate, the upper side slightly covered with downy hairs or bald. The secondary crown is also white to creamy white, the base of the secondary crown is red. The staminal corolla lobes are inverted oval. The inner extension is thorn-like, the outer extension is broadly rounded. The flowers smell strongly of musk. They bloom for about 10 days.
Geographical occurrence
The species occurs in India ( Assam ), Tibet, China ( Xizang , Medong Province) and Thailand. The holotype was recorded in pine forests in the Khasia Mountains (Assam, India) at an altitude of about 900 m above sea level. Found NN by Joseph Dalton Hooker and Thomas Thomson .
