Hoya tsangii is a plant of the genus of wax flowers ( Hoya ) of the subfamily of asclepiadoideae (Asclepiadoideae).

features

Hoya tsangii is a climbing plant with branched shoots. The shoots are round in cross section and up to 3 mm in diameter. The surface is smooth and bare. The leaves are stalked, the thick leaf stalks, runny on top, are up to 1 cm long. The leaf blades are narrowly lanceolate, 5 to 12 cm long and 1 to 1.5 cm wide. The apex is pointed, the base is narrowly wedge-shaped. The margins are curved back and papilose.

The inflorescence hangs down and has a flat to slightly concave top. The inflorescence stalk is round in cross section, 3 to 5 cm long and glabrous. The rachis is very thick. The flower stalks are very thin and 1 to 2 cm long and strongly curved. The corolla is button-shaped with a diameter of 3 mm, with extended tips about 1 cm, and is dark pink to deep red. The petal lobes are elongated ovate, 2 to 3.5 mm long, and tapering to a point. They are strongly bent back, densely covered on the inside with gray downy hairs. The secondary crown is dark pink to red. The corolla lobes are narrow elliptical. The outer process is double-lobed, the inner process is pointed, rising high, and often yellowish in the middle. The caudiculae are winged. The curved follicle is almost round in cross section, 8-14 cm and tapers to a point. The fruit sits on a 1 cm long stem. When viewed from above, the brown seed is linear, 6 mm long and flat.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The range of the species is limited to the southern half of the island of Luzon and the island of Mindanao (Philippines).
