Hrafnagil on Eyjafjarðará

Hrafnagil is a settlement in the northeast of Iceland .

It is located 11 km south of Akureyri on Eyjafjarðará . The place in the municipality Eyjafjarðarsveit had 270 inhabitants on January 1, 2019. The Eyjafjarðarbraut vestri runs through Hrafnagil and continues into Eyjafjarðardalur. In the further course the road becomes Eyjafjarðarleið , via which one can get to Sprengisandsleið . At the place the Miðbraut branches off to the east, bridges the Eyjafjarðará and flows into the Eyjafjarðarbraut eystri . The existing geothermal energy is used for greenhouses. Hrafnagil was the center of the former municipality of Hrafnagilshreppur. It emerged from a large farm that was already known during the saga.
