Hu Jianbing

Hu Jianbing (chin .: 胡建兵; * 1965 ) is a Chinese sheng player and composer.

Life

Hu was taught the traditional Chinese instruments Sheng, Suona and Guanzi by his father Hu Zhiguo . He made his debut as a soloist at the age of ten and studied at the Gansu Province Art College from the age of thirteen to eighteen. Afterwards he was a student of the sheng master Mu Shanping in Jinan. From 1985 to 1989 he studied at the Central Music Conservatory Sheng with Feng Haiyun , Guanzi with Hu Zhihou and composition with Li Bingyang and Guo Wenjing .

In 1989, Zhou Wang premiered Hu's piece for Guzheng Autumn Melody , and Hu's commissioned work was premiered by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra the following year . He performed with instrumentalists Hu Zhihou and Li Zhengui and recorded an album of traditional Chinese music on Philips Records . In 1993 he won a composition prize in Taiwan with the piece Fragrant as Ever , which was recorded on record with two other pieces by Hu Zhihou and Wang Zhongshan .

In 1996 Hu toured the United States with the National Traditional Orchestra of China , and in the following year the Central National Orchestra of China performed a program of his compositions in Beijing. In 1998 Hu moved to New York. Here he founded the Chinese Performing Arts of North America , of which he is president. The People's Music Publishing House published The Compositions of Guanzi and The Compositions of Guzheng collections in 2000 , each of which contained works by Hu.

Hu has been a member of Yo-Yo Mas Silk Road Ensemble since 2001 , with whom he a. a. has performed and toured around the world at Carnegie Hall , Lincoln Center , Merkin Concert Hall and the Sanders Theater in Boston . In 2004 he performed his piece Dancing with Ghosts with Bao Jian at a Pro Musicis concert in Paris . In the same year he performed with Bao at the Guanzi and Sheng Contemporary Music Concert at Carnegie Hall and participated in the Masters of Chinese Music concert at Lincoln Center. In 2007 he was a guest performer at the Chinese Central Conservatory's Modern Music Festival, where his composition The Refined Orchid received an award. In 2010 he gave a lecture on Chinese music at Harvard University .
