Hubert Borowicka (born August 18, 1910 in Mährisch-Schönberg , † March 26, 1999 in Vienna ) was professor of foundation engineering and soil mechanics at the Vienna University of Technology .

Hubert Borowicka studied civil engineering at the Vienna University of Technology, passed his second state examination there in 1934 and received his doctorate in 1936. He was still a student of Karl von Terzaghi . From 1957 to 1980 he succeeded Otto Karl Fröhlich as full professor and director of the Institute for Foundation Engineering and Soil Mechanics at the Vienna University of Technology. In 1962/63 he was dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture. His successor as professor of geotechnics and institute director was Heinz Brandl .

Among other things, he dealt with slope stability like his predecessor Fröhlich, which was also included in the German DIN standard 4084, and investigated the landslides on the Salzburg-Vienna motorway in the 1960s . He also dealt with the distribution of pressure under shallow foundations, on which he published influential theoretical papers in the 1940s, and investigated the subsidence during the construction of the UN City in Vienna in the 1970s .

In 1976 he received the City of Vienna Prize for Natural Sciences .

Borowicka was buried at the Heiligenstadt cemetery .
