Hubert Damisch

Hubert Damisch (born April 28, 1928 in Prague , † December 14, 2017 in Paris ) was a French philosopher and professor at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris.

Live and act

Hubert Damisch first studied philosophy at the Sorbonne, where he attended courses with Maurice Merleau-Ponty . This was followed by studies at the École pratique des hautes études (EPHE) with Pierre Francastel , where he taught himself from 1958. On September 5, 1960 Damisch was one of the signatories of the 121st manifesto . He qualified in philosophy in 1970 with the writing theory du Nuage from Gaëtan Picon . In 1977 he founded the Center d'histoire et de théorie des arts (CEHTA) at EHESS .

His focus was on semiology in aesthetics, painting, architecture, photography, cinema and theater. His work is at the interface between philosophy, psychoanalysis and art history. Damisch curated exhibitions and was a jazz musician.
