Hubert Hasenauer

Hubert Hasenauer (born November 3, 1962 in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer ) is an Austrian forest scientist . He has been Professor of Forest Ecosystem Management since 2007 and head of the Institute for Silviculture at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU) since 2008 . He has been the rector of the university since February 2018 .

Life

Hubert Hasenauer worked as a forester at the Austrian Federal Forests from 1982 to 1986 , and in 1983 he passed the state examination for forestry service . From 1986 to 1991 he studied forestry at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, where he received his doctorate in 1994 with a dissertation on a single tree growth simulator for mixed stands of spruce , pine and beech and spruce of different ages . He then did research for over 2 years at the College of Forestry at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) and at the Forestry School at the University of Montana - Missoula . In 1998 he completed his habilitation at BOKU with a paper on the simultaneous properties of forest growth models .

In 2007 he was appointed professor for forest ecosystem management at BOKU, and in 2008 he took over the management of the Institute for Silviculture. From 2009 to 2016 he was chairman of the BOKU Senate , and in 2015/2016 he was also the spokesman for the chairmen of the Senate of Austrian universities. From 2013 to 2016 he was also a member of the University Conference. In June 2017, he was elected Rector of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna , for a four-year term ; on February 1, 2018, he succeeded Martin Gerzabek in this function. In his scientific work he deals, among other things, with forest growth and its modeling, forest and its role in climate change and ecosystem research.
