Hubert Ilg

Hubert Ilg (born October 13, 1935 in Halberstadt ) is a German sports psychologist and university professor .

Life

Ilg studied physical education from 1955 to 1960 at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald . Peter Hirtz was one of his fellow students . In 1966, Ilg completed his doctoral thesis (“The Influence of Some Educational Conditions on the Performance of Students in Physical Education in Lower School”) and in 1975 his habilitation (“Planning and Designing Education in Physical Education”). Ilg taught as a professor of sports psychology at the Institute for Sports Science at the University of Greifswald. From 1981 he was head of the sports psychology work group in the Central Sports Commission (ZFK). In 2001 he retired from university. He later wrote yoga textbooks.

During his academic career, he dealt with the subject of movement in school age, with the motor development of children and adolescents, with sports teacher behavior, psychological stress, motivation, with emotions in the development of athletic performance and with the concept of personality. From 1988 to 1993 he headed the research project "Investigations into the individual development of primary school students taking into account the biopsychosocial unit".

From 1995 to 2001 Ilg was an assessor on the board of the Working Group for Sport Psychology in Germany (ASP). In 2019 he was awarded the ASP's Golden Badge of Honor.
